J&J Snack Foods to Launch Dippin’ Dots in Retail Freezer Aisle
Dippin’ Dots, the flash-frozen ice cream brand known for its distinctive beaded format, is making its first foray into grocery stores with the launch of pre-packaged sundaes, parent company J&J Snack Foods Corp. announced.

The move represents a significant shift for the novelty ice cream maker, which has primarily sold its products through entertainment venues, theme parks and specialty kiosks since its founding in 1988.

The new product line, dubbed Dippin’ Dots Ice Cream Sundaes, will debut at Kroger stores nationwide in January 2025, with broader retail distribution planned throughout the year. Each package will contain four 4-ounce sundae cups, priced at $6.99.

“This launch marks an exciting new chapter for the Dippin’ Dots brand,” said Dan Fachner, president and CEO of J&J Snack Foods. The company acquired Dippin’ Dots in 2022 as part of its strategy to expand its frozen treats portfolio.

The sundaes will initially be available in two varieties—Cookies ‘n Cream and Cotton Candy—featuring a three-layer composition of the company’s signature beaded ice cream, cookie pieces, traditional ice cream and flavored sauce.

The retail expansion comes in response to consumer demand for at-home options, according to Lynwood Mallard, chief marketing officer at J&J Snack Foods. The individually portioned cups are designed to appeal to various consumption occasions, from family gatherings to casual snacking.

The move into retail could help J&J Snack Foods capture a larger share of the competitive frozen dessert market, which has seen increased consumer interest in premium and novelty offerings.
